Supercars and high-value cars

Low, wide and worth looking after.

Dubai and Doha have more interesting cars per mile of road than almost anywhere. When one of them is coming to the UK, it deserves a container to itself and people who unload it slowly.

Plenty of the high-value cars we bring from the Gulf are bought there on purpose. The specification is different, the choice is wider, and sometimes the car you want simply was not sold here.

Others belong to people moving home who have no intention of leaving them behind. Either way, the job is the same. We get it here without a mark on it, make it legal for UK roads without spoiling it, and register it properly.

How we look after it

Five things that matter more than speed.

01

A container to itself

Sealed in the Gulf, opened only by us. Nothing else inside to shift, scrape or lean.

02

Insured for what it is worth

Transit insurance is available for the full value, which matters when the value has six figures.

03

Unloaded by our own team

At our own site, with as much time as a low, wide car needs to come off a ramp safely.

04

Indoor storage

Kept inside, charged and on the key while it waits for testing, registration or you.

05

Enclosed delivery

Brought to your door in an enclosed trailer rather than on an open transporter.

Before you buy one out there

A Gulf-market supercar can be a superb buy. It can also be a car that spent its early life somewhere else, with a history that is harder to see from the showroom floor. Always run a full history check on the VIN, and read our guide to salvage and flood cars before you pay.

Then budget properly for the UK side. Import duty is 10% and VAT is 20% (on the value plus shipping, and the VAT on the duty too), which on an expensive car is a serious sum. The calculator will show you the figure in seconds.

Testing an exotic

Most supercars from the Gulf are less than ten years old, so they take an IVA test. With some makes, the manufacturer can supply documents that make approval simpler. With others, the car is tested on its own merits. Either way, we work out the route before the car ships, so there are no surprises when it arrives.

Lights, speedometer and any tint on the front windows are the usual changes. We make them carefully and in a way that respects the car, because nobody wants a supercar that looks like it has been through a conversion.

Supercar questions

Is it worth importing a supercar from Dubai?

Sometimes very much so, and sometimes not at all. Specification, history, the import tax and the cost of making it UK-compliant all count. Send us the details before you commit and we will tell you plainly what bringing it home involves.

Does a recent supercar need an IVA test?

If it is under ten years old, usually yes. Some manufacturers can provide the documents that make approval simpler, and others cannot. We check what is possible for your car before it ships.

Can you collect a car with very low ground clearance?

Yes. Tell us about the car when you ask for a quote, including any lift system, so we can plan collection and loading around it.

Something special coming home?

Tell us about the car and where it is. Someone at My Car Import builds your quote around your car, and there is no obligation to go ahead.
