Leaving the Gulf
The car, sorted before the flight.
Moving country comes with a long list of jobs. These are the ones that concern the car, in the order that works. Tick them off as you go and this page will remember, on this device.
Questions about leaving
When should I start sorting the car?
As soon as you know you are moving. Get a quote, decide whether to ship or sell, check if you qualify for Transfer of Residence and make sure the car is in your name. The bank settlement and the HMRC application come four to eight weeks before you go.
Should I cancel my residence visa first?
No, do the car first. In our experience Gulf services are far easier while your local ID, bank account and phone number still work.
Can I leave belongings in the car?
No. Empty it completely. Belongings complicate customs and are not insured.
Do I need to be there when the car is collected?
No. If you fly first, leave the keys, the paperwork and the authority to hand the car over with someone you trust.
Will my ticks be saved?
Yes, in this browser on this device, so you can come back to the list. Clear my ticks resets it.
Ready when you are.
Tell us about the car and where it is. Someone at My Car Import builds your quote around your car, and there is no obligation to go ahead.
